Hotkey

Overview

A window control or a page control can be associated with an alphanumeric character, a keyboard key or a combination of keyboard keys, called "hotkey".

This hotkey gives direct access to the control from the keyboard (by selecting or clicking the control).

Note: By default, a hotkey can be defined from the control caption ('&' character before the caption letter defined as hotkey). See the "& character" for more details.

How to proceed?

Defining the hotkey of a window control

To define the hotkey of a window control:

Display the description window of control ("Description" from the popup menu).
Open the "GUI" tab and click the button on the right of the "Hotkey" control.
Select the keys that constitute the desired hotkey.

The "Detection" button is used to detect the key (or the combination of keys) used on the keyboard.

Note: In Android, for security reasons, the "Home" and "End of call" keys cannot be used as hotkeys.

Defining the hotkey of a page control

To define the hotkey of a page control:

Display the description window of control ("Description" from the popup menu).
In the "Details" tab, select the requested key combination in the "Hotkey" control.
Validate.

& character

Managing the & character in the window controls

By default, a hotkey can be defined from the control caption ('&' character before the caption letter defined as hotkey).

The control hotkey will be Alt + Letter after &.

To display the '&' character in a caption, this character must be typed twice. For example:

"War&Peace" will be displayed as "WarPeace" (with Alt + P as hotkey).
"War&&Peace" will be displayed as "War&Peace".

To define how the '&' character will be interpreted, use ..InterpretAmpersand.

In order for the '&' character to be automatically inserted before the caption of the new controls, check "Automatic hotkey during control creation" ("Display .. Options .. Modify the options", "Controls" tab).In order for the '&' character to be automatically inserted before the caption of the new controls:

Display the options of the window editor: on the "Home" pane, in the "Environment" group, expand "Options" and select "Options of window editor".
In the "Controls" tab, check "Automatic hotkey when creating a control".
Validate.
