Prepare a web server for a first deployment
Overview
Deploying a dynamic WEBDEV site consists in installing the WEBDEV site on a Web server.
Two types of deployment can be done:
  • Remote deployment (by FTP or HTTP):
Two types of remote deployment are available:
    1. The remote deployment from the development computer: the WEBDEV site manager will be able to deploy their site from the development computer. The necessary files will be transferred by FTP. This type of deployment is required if the Web server is not directly accessible by the site manager.
    2. The remote deployment from a management computer: the developer does not have to know the server characteristics when creating the setup program (called "Package" in this case). The server parameters are specified when the package is run on a management computer.
This type of deployment is recommended when the developer does not know the server characteristics when creating the setup program.
  • Deployment by physical media (CD/DVD, etc.): The files required to install the site are transmitted to the server administrator via a physical media: CD/DVD, ... The site must be installed from the physical media.
This type of deployment is possible when the Web server is directly accessible. This type of deployment is available for a Windows server only.
Remarks: A license of WEBDEV 26 application server is required for each Web server hosting dynamic WEBDEV 26.

Remark

Simplified configuration of Web server
The WEBDEV 26 application server is supplied with the WEBDEV Hosting Control Center. This control center is used to simplify the steps for configuring a Web server. This control center can be run on a computer that is using a server operating system and an IIS server.
Deployment via FTP or HTTP
To allow the sites to be deployed by FTP, the server administrator must:
  • Step 1: Check the server configuration.
  • Step 2: Create an FTP account for the WEBDEV site manager (FTP deployment only).
  • Step 3: Create a WEBDEV account for the site manager.
  • Step 4: Configure the access rights on the server.
  • Step 5: Don't forget to transmit the parameters of the FTP account (FTP deployment only) and the WEBDEV account. These parameters must be sent:
    • to the WEBDEV site manager for a remote setup performed from the development computer. The WEBDEV site manager will be able to install their WEBDEV site from their development computer and to remotely update their sites on a regular basis.
    • to the person who will install the package corresponding to the WEBDEV site for a remote setup from a management computer.
Remark: The steps 1 to 4 are automatically performed when installing the WEBDEV application server and when using the Hosting Control Center.
Deployment by physical media
To deploy a WEBDEV site or a SOAP/REST Webservice via physical media, you must:
  • Step 1: Check the server configuration.
  • Step 2: Install the WEBDEV site on the server.
  • Step 3: Configure the access rights on the server.
