Displaying the description window of a control

• double-click the control.
• select "Description" from the popup menu of control (right mouse click).
• select the control and press Alt + Enter.

For example, description window of a button:

• The description window can be displayed for a selection of controls. Only the characteristics common to the selected controls will be displayed.
• Several description windows can be displayed at the same time. Each description window displays the characteristics of one or more controls.

Characteristics by tab

Tab	Characteristics
General	Used to specify the control name and the display characteristics of control. For example: the control caption (this caption can be multilingual). the type of information displayed in the control (text, numeric, ...). the input mask used for the control (this mask can be a multilingual mask). See the Different input masks for more details. the image displayed in an Image control, the captions of the options found in a radio button, the controls found in a toolbar, etc. See the online help about this type of control for more details.
GUI	Used to define: the initial status of control when opening the window. the parameters of the control (accessible by Tab, ...). the action of a right click on the control. the mouse cursor when hovering a control. the popup menu associated with the control. See Popup menu for more details. the control shortcut. the control size. the control position in the window. the control anchoring. See Anchoring for more details. the window plane to which the control belongs. See Window plane for more details. the group of controls to which the control belongs. Details	Used to define the advanced parameters of controls: the action of Drag and Drop for this control. See Managing Drag and Drop for more details. the use of automatic validation (for the buttons). See Automatic validation of a window for more details. the input parameters for the edit controls. the parameters specific to the list boxes, combo boxes, tables, ... These advanced parameters are grouped into several categories: the parameters that modify the appearance of the control (parameters on beige background). the parameters that modify the operating mode and the input in the control (parameters on green background). the parameters related to the return value of control (parameters on blue background).
Link	Allows you yo select the item (found in a file or in a query) to which the control is linked. Depending on the current record, the content of linked item will be displayed in the control.
Content	Used to define: the initial content of control (for the edit controls only). the data source used to fill the control (for the list boxes, combo boxes and tables only).
Note	Used to describe the detailed operating mode of control. This information will be printed in the program documentation ("File .. Print the documentation").This information will be printed in the program documentation ( icon on the "Home" pane, in the "General" group). This information can be completed and found by programming via ..Note and ..NoteTitle.
Help	Used to associate help pages with the control. See Helping the user for more details.
Style	Used to: apply a preset style to the control. modify or create a preset style for the type of control. modify the appearance of the control (background color, border, font, ...).

Viewing and/or modifying the characteristics of one or more controls with the modifier

1. Select the controls to modify:
   • in the window directly (see Selecting one or more controls).
   • via the drop-down list of modifier. In this case, a single control can be selected at a time. The handles of the selected control are automatically displayed.
     If several controls are selected, only the information common to the selected controls is displayed in the modifier.
2. Perform the necessary modifications. These modifications are performed on all controls. You can:
   • select the new value in a drop-down list.
   • select the new value in a screen (color modification for example).
   • modify the value directly.

1. Select the control to modify.
2. Click the control again or press the Enter key. The mouse cursor turns into an input cursor.
   
3. Type the new caption of control.
4. Validate the input by pressing the Enter key.

• The directly edit of the captions performs the spell check, allows the RTF input as well as the input in a non-Western character set.
