Description window of window controls

Displaying the description window of a control

To open a control description window:
  • double-click the control.
  • select "Description" in the context menu.
  • select the control and press Alt + Enter.
For example, description window of a button:

Remarks:
  • The description window can be displayed for a selection of controls. Only the characteristics common to the selected controls will be displayed.
  • Several description windows can be opened at the same time. Each description window displays the characteristics of one or more controls.

Characteristics by tab

The description window groups the characteristics of selected controls by tab:
TabCharacteristics
GeneralUsed to specify the control name and the display characteristics of control. For example:
  • the control caption (this caption can be multilingual).
  • the type of information displayed in the control (text, numeric, ...).
  • the input mask used for the control (this mask can be a multilingual mask). For more details, see the Different input masks.
  • the image displayed in an Image control, the captions of the options found in a radio button, the controls found in a toolbar, etc. For more details, see the online help about this type of control.
UIUsed to define:
  • the initial status of control when opening the window.
  • the parameters of the control (accessible by Tab, ...).
  • the action of a right click on the control.
  • the mouse cursor when hovering a control.
  • the context menu associated with the control. For more details, see Popup menu.
  • the control shortcut.
  • the control size.
  • the control position in the window.
  • the control anchoring. For more details, see Anchor.
  • the window plane to which the control belongs. For more details, see Window plane.
  • the group of controls to which the control belongs. For more details, see Group of controls.
DetailsUsed to define the advanced parameters of controls:
  • the action of Drag and Drop for this control. For more details, see Drag and Drop.
  • the use of automatic validation (for the buttons). For more details, see Automatic validation of a window.
  • the input parameters for the edit controls.
  • specific parameters of List Box, Combo Box, Table controls, etc.
These advanced parameters are grouped into several categories:
  • the parameters that modify the appearance of the control (parameters on beige background).
  • the parameters that modify the operating mode and the input in the control (parameters on green background).
  • the parameters related to the return value of control (parameters on blue background).
LinkAllows you to select the item (from a data file or query) to which the control is bound. Depending on the current record, the content of the bound item will be displayed in the control.
ContentUsed to define:
  • the initial content of the control (for Edit controls only).
  • the data source used to populate the control (for List Box, Combo Box and Table controls only).
RemarkUsed to describe the detailed operating mode of control.
This information will be printed in the technical documentation (Print icon icon on the "Home" tab, "General" group).

HelpUsed to associate help pages with the control. For more details, see Helping the user.
StyleAllows you to:
  • apply a preset style to the control.
  • modify or create a preset style for the type of control.
  • modify the control appearance (background color, border, font, ...).
Using the modifier

Overview

The modifier allows you to view and/or modify from the window editor the main characteristics:
  • of selected controls.
  • of the selected window.

Viewing and/or modifying the characteristics of one or more controls with the modifier

To view and/or modify the characteristics of one or more controls with the modifier:
  1. Select the controls to modify:
    • in the window directly (see Selecting one or more controls).
    • via the drop-down list of modifier. In this case, a single control can be selected at a time. The handles of the selected control are automatically displayed.
      If several controls are selected, only the information common to the selected controls is displayed in the modifier.
  2. Make the desired changes. These modifications are performed on all controls. You can:
    • select the new value in a drop-down list.
    • select the new value in a screen (color modification for example).
    • modify the value directly.
Changing the control caption
To modify the caption of a control in the window currently created:
  1. Select the control to modify.
  2. Click the control again or press the Enter key. The mouse cursor turns into an input cursor.

  3. Enter the new control text.
  4. Validate the input by pressing the Enter key.
Remarks:
  • The directly edit of the captions performs the spell check, allows the RTF input as well as the input in a non-Western character set.

Modifying the control name
The name of a control can be modified from the message bar of window editor.
To modify the control name:
  1. Select the control to modify.
  2. Type the new control name in the status bar.

The control position and/or dimensions can be modified from the status bar of window editor.
To modify the control position and/or dimensions:
  1. Select the control to modify.
  2. Type the new control position and/or dimensions in the status bar.

Changing the image associated with a control

The image associated with an Image control or with a button can be changed in the window currently created.
To modify the image associated with a control in the window currently created:
  1. Select the control to modify.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + P. A file picker is opened.
  3. Select the image file to associate with the current control and validate.
