Overview
The report editor allows you to:
These features apply to:
  • the current report only,
  • the next opening of reports only.
Most of these features are accessible:
  • from "Display .. Options...",
  • from the window for managing the edit options of report editor ("Display .. Options .. Modify the options").

  • from the window for managing the edit options of report editor. To display this window, on the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
Proposing several print modes during the report test
During the report test, the report editor proposes several print modes:

To avoid displaying this window:
  1. Select "Tools .. Options .. Options of report editor".On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of the "Options" group.
  2. In the "Print" tab, uncheck "Ask for the print mode".
In this case, the report whose test is run will be viewed in a print preview.
To avoid displaying this window, simply check the option "Don't display anymore" in the window. In this case, the report whose test is run will be viewed in a print preview.
Note: You can re-redisplay this window. See Don't display a message anymore for more details.

Showing the name of controls

To show (or not) the name of controls in the report editor, select "Display .. Options .. Show the names" (or press F6).To show (or not) the name of controls in the report editor, on the "Display" pane, in the "Viewing" group, check "Names of controls" (or press F6).
For example:

  1. Select "Display .. Options .. Modify the options".On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Display" tab if necessary.
  3. Check/Uncheck "Display the name of controls".In the "Name of controls" option, select:
    • "Display" to display the name of controls,
    • "Disabled" to display nothing.

Showing the report margins

The margins of reports can be:
  • visible.

  • invisible.

To modify this display in the current report, select "Display .. Options .. Show the margins" (or press F11).To modify this display in the current report, on the "Display" pane, in the "Viewing" group, check or uncheck "Logical margins" (or press F11).
Other solution:
  1. Select "Display .. Options .. Modify the options".On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Display" tab if necessary.
  3. Check/Uncheck "Report margins".In the "Report margins" option, select "Show the margins" or "Don't show the margins".

Showing the content of data files

The report editor allows you to show the content of data files in the controls of a report currently created. This feature allows you to configure the size of a control according to the data that can be displayed in the control.
This feature is called "Live Data". See Live Data for more details.

Showing the useful page

The report editor is used to display the current report as it will be when it is printed:
  • the report margins are invisible,
  • the names of report blocks are abbreviated when displayed.
To preview a report as it will be printed, select "Display .. Options .. Show the useful page only" (or press F5).To preview a report as it will be printed, press F5.
Displaying the name of the blocks (in full or abbreviated)
The name of the blocks is displayed on the left of reports. These names can be displayed:
  • in full.

To modify this display in the current report, select "Display .. Options .. Show the full name of blocks" (or press F10).To modify this display in the current report, on the "Display" pane, in the "Viewing" group, check or uncheck "Full name of blocks" (or press F10).
Other solution:
  1. Select "Display .. Options .. Modify the options".On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Display" tab if necessary.
  3. Check/Uncheck "Show the name of blocks".In the "Show the name of blocks" option, select "Entirely" or "Partly".
Displaying the language associated with each font
To modify the font in the report controls, you must use:
  • The "Font" combo box in the "Style" tab of the control description.
  • The "Font" combo box in the popup bar of the report editor.
By default, only the names of the fonts installed on the development computer are displayed in the "Font" combo box.
In Windows, the same font can be associated with several groups of languages. To fill each font name with the associated language:
  1. Select "Display .. Options .. Modify the options".On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Controls" tab if necessary.
  3. Check "Display all the available languages".

Note: This option will be taken into account during the next report opening.
Showing the controls and the blocks via a border
The report editor allows you to quickly view all the controls and blocks found in the current report.
You can:
  • frame the controls and blocks with a simple line. This line appears in edit mode only. This line is not visible at run time.
    This border is used to easily view the area occupied by the controls and blocks found in a report (especially for the image controls).
  • Versions 16 and later
    show the corners of the controls and blocks. This view mode, lighter than a line, allows you to quickly view the different areas.

  • use no specific view mode.
To change the display mode in the current report, select "Display .. Options .. Frame the controls and blocks" (or press F7).To change the display mode in the current report, on the "Display" pane, in the "Viewing" group, select the requested display mode:
  • Corners
  • Full border
  • None
The F7 key is used to dynamically modify the display mode.
Other solution:
  1. Select "Display .. Options .. Modify the options".On the "Modification" pane, click the group icon Grouping of the "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Display" tab if necessary.
  3. Check/Uncheck "Frame the controls and the blocks".In the "Frame of controls" option, select "None", "Corners only" or "Full border".
Measurement unit
Versions 19 and later
The measurement unit used in the report editor can be the millimeters or the inches.
To choose the measurement unit used in the report editor:
  1. On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Preferences" tab if necessary.
  3. In the "Measurement unit" section, select the unit that will be used in display: millimeters or inches.
  4. Validate. The selected measurement unit will be used for the next reports opened in the report editor.
New in version 19
The measurement unit used in the report editor can be the millimeters or the inches.
To choose the measurement unit used in the report editor:
  1. On the "Display" pane, click the group icon Grouping of "Options" group.
  2. Display the "Preferences" tab if necessary.
  3. In the "Measurement unit" section, select the unit that will be used in display: millimeters or inches.
  4. Validate. The selected measurement unit will be used for the next reports opened in the report editor.
