Overview
All the messages form the translation file can be reintegrated into a project.
The translation file (containing the translated or corrected messages) must be in the same format as the extraction file created by WDMSG ("Message extraction" or "List of untranslated messages").
Remarks:
  • Several points must be checked before reintegrating the messages (see notes).
  • If modifications have been made to the initial extraction file created by WDMSG, this file must be reintegrated to apply such modifications.
Elements (windows, pages, reports, etc.) supporting more languages than the project:
WDMSG only proposes the languages supported by the current project. If elements (windows, pages, reports, etc.) support more languages than the project, the translations for these additional languages will not be reintegrated into the current project.
Make sure the project supports the language in which the messages will be reintegrated. If necessary, add this language into "Languages" tab of the project description.
Reminder: To display the project description, go to the "Project" pane, "Project" group, and click "Description".
How to proceed?

Reintegrating messages into a project

To reintegrate translated or corrected messages into your project:
  1. Open your project in WINDEV, WEBDEV or WINDEV Mobile: on the "Home" pane, in the "General" group, expand "Open" and select "Open a project".
  2. Start WDMSG: on the "Project" pane, in the "Translate" group, expand "Translate" and select "Reintegrate messages".
  3. Select the languages in which the messages will be reintegrated.
    Notes:
    • The name of custom languages is also proposed.
    • The multi-selection of languages is available for the translation files in HFSQL or WDMSG format only. The different resources to translate have been extracted beforehand in the translation file and translated by WDTRAD.
    • Versions 25 and later
The option "Use one of the other available languages if a message is empty." allows you to avoid "holes" in the interface. Indeed, if this option is enabled, when a resource is not found in the reintegrated language, it is searched in British English then in American English. If after this search, the resource is still not found, the resource is kept in the reference language.
      New in version 25

  4. Go to the next step of the wizard.
  5. Select the reintegration parameters of the file containing the translated messages. These parameters are presented in the paragraph below.
  6. Go to the next step.
  7. When reintegrating messages, you can verify whether the messages that were previously extracted are identical to the messages in the current project. This feature is very useful when the messages are translated while the application is still developed.
After this verification, the translation (or correction) of messages modified in the project will not be reintegrated. Modified messages will be extracted and saved in a new extraction file.
    To perform this verification:
    • check "Check whether messages have been modified since their extraction".
    • specify the initial extraction file (messages neither translated nor corrected) and the new extraction file that will only contain the modified messages.
      Go to the next step.
    • select the initial extraction language.
      Go to the next step.
  8. Along with the messages, you can reintegrate corrections (spelling mistakes, etc.) made in the initial extraction file. This feature is very useful when the initial file is modified by the translators. The translation and modifications made can be reintegrated.
    To perform this reintegration:
    • check "Reintegrate the changes to the messages to translate".
    • specify the initial extraction file containing the corrections.
    • select the initial extraction language.
      Go to the next step.
  9. WDMSG gives you the ability to create a reference file. When performing the next translations, this reference file will allow you to only translate the new messages or the messages modified since the last translation.
    To create a reference file:
    • check "Extract a reference file".
    • specify the reference file.
    • select the language of the reference file.
      Go to the next step.
  10. Validate. Messages are reintegrated. If specific operations have been requested, the corresponding files will be processed and generated.
You can verify this reintegration directly in the tool used (WINDEV, WEBDEV or WINDEV Mobile).
For example, display the description of an edit control. The translation of the control caption will be available.

Reintegration parameters

In most cases, you must use the same parameters to extract and reintegrate messages of a project. Reintegration parameters are as follows:
  • Retrieve in OEM format: if the option is enabled, the text of the file must be in OEM format (format of DOS characters); otherwise, in ANSI format (format of Windows characters).
You can also define parameters specific to your own translation software (see next paragraph).

Reintegration parameters for a translation software

The following parameters are not required if you are using WDTRAD to translate the messages found in your project.
If you are using another translation software, specific parameters must be defined (these parameters may differ according to the software used). In most cases, you must use the same parameters to extract and reintegrate messages of a project. The parameters specific to the translation software used are as follows:
  • Consider the delimiter of sections of text not to be translated: with some translation software, sections of text can be ignored in the document to translate. For example, the comments generated by WDMSG can be ignored. To do so, the text sections to ignore must be enclosed in delimiters (specific to the software).
If this option is enabled, all the sections of text specific to the format of the extraction file will be enclosed in delimiters (SSTRX by default) and they will not be translated.
See the documentation about the translation software for more details.
  • Consider the space before the delimiter: with some translation software, a space must be added before the delimiter.
If this option is enabled, a space character is added before the delimiter.
  • Consider the space after the delimiter: with some translation software, a space character must be added after the delimiter.
If this option is enabled, a space character is added after the delimiter.
Notes

Before reintegrating messages

Before reintegrating messages, make sure that:
  • a backup of the project was performed in WINDEV, WEBDEV or WINDEV Mobile. To perform a backup, on the "Project" pane, in the "Other actions" group, expand "Save/Restore" and select "Save the project".
Important: No archive file is created by WDMSG.
  • In the case of a translation text file: the keywords in the extraction file have not been modified while the file was translated or corrected (otherwise, error messages will appear during the reintegration).
  • the translation language was defined in the project. Otherwise, you must:
    • add the language into the "Languages" tab of the project description: on the "Project" pane, in the "Project" group, click "Description".
    • update the project before reintegrating: on the "Project" pane, in the "Project" group, expand "Recompile and synchronize" and select "Repair the project (upgrade)".
  • to reintegrate several languages simultaneously (HFSQL or WDMSG file): the different languages found in the translation file have been translated in WDTRAD.
