Overview

Operations required in order for the native Access access to operate in WINDEV and WEBDEV

The native access to the ACCESS databases is provided for interoperability. We recommend that you use HFSQL, the database engine included in WINDEV and WEBDEV.
Note: From version 19, HFSQL is the new name of HyperFileSQL.
To use the native Access access, you must install:
  • MDAC.
  • the Microsoft Jet provider (installed with Access or Internet Explorer 6.0 for example).
Creating an application that is using the native Access access
To create an application that is using the Access tables, all you have to do is import the structure of these tables into the data model editor of WINDEV or WEBDEV:
  1. Start the data model editor ("Project .. Load the analysis").Open the analysis associated with the project: click Analysis icon among the quick access buttons.
  2. Select "Structure of files .. Import/Export the descriptions of files/tables".On the "Analysis" pane, in the "Creation" group, expand "Import" and select "Import the descriptions of files/tables".
If you choose to keep the data in Access format, the Access tables can be directly handled by the WLanguage functions for managing the data files (starting with the letter H). A connection to the Access database is automatically established.
Note: if the path of the Access tables used differs during the development and when running the application, use HChangeDir and HChangeName.
If you choose to convert the data to HyperFileSQL format, data files in HyperFileSQL format will be created from the structure of Access tables. These HyperFileSQL files can be handled by the functions for managing the data files (starting with the letter H).If you choose to convert the data to HFSQL format, data files in HFSQL format will be created from the structure of Access tables. These HFSQL files can be handled by the functions for managing the data files (starting with the letter H).
I was using the native Access access with WINDEV 5.5. What should I with a new WINDEV version?
WINDEVNative Accesses In WINDEV 5.5, SQLConnect allowed you to use the native Access access. Once connected to an Access database, all the standard SQL functions allowed you to access and modify the data found in the database.
This operating mode is kept in the later versions of WINDEV.
