Overview
WINDEV gives you the ability to import Access elements into a WINDEV project.
Caution: To perform this import, a specific Access version (Access 2000, XP or 2003) must be installed on the current computer.
How to proceed?
To import elements from an Access application:
  1. Select "File .. Import .. Access project or elements".On the "Project" pane, in the "Project" group, expand "Import" and select "A project or Access elements".
  2. In the wizard, specify the type of import to perform:
    • Importing all the elements into a new project
    • Importing some elements into the current project.
  3. Specify the database password (if necessary).
  4. If you have chosen to import some of the project elements only, select these elements in the list that is displayed.
  5. Specify the import parameters:
    • Converting the Visual Basic code into WLanguage.
    • Keeping (or not) the Visual Basic code as comments in the WLanguage code.
    • Applying the skin template of the project (when importing elements).
    • Converting the data files to HFSQL format or keeping the data in Access format.
Note: From version 19, HFSQL is the new name of HyperFileSQL.
  6. Validate. The import is performed.
Caution: Importing elements from an Access application can be quite long.
Limitations of Access import

Limitations during the import

Most of the automatic processes are retrieved.
However, all the codes cannot be retrieved during the import because the complexity of the code makes it difficult to interpret.
The accesses to the database files are not always migrated. Indeed, these accesses are very different from the ones performed in WINDEV and they are often a lot more complex.
We advise you to rewrite the accesses to the databases (or to the serial ports) with the WLanguage syntaxes: your code will be clearer and more readable.

Limitations of this feature

The limitations of this feature are as follows:
  • One of the following Access versions must be installed on the current computer: Access 2000, XP or 2003.
  • Only the Access 2000, XP or 2003 projects can be imported.
  • The macros are not imported. To get the macros, you must convert them into Visual Basic before performing the import.
  • Importing queries requires MDAC version 2.6 (or later). If you are using an earlier version, the import of queries may failed. This information (MDAC version too old) is noted in the import status report.
  • The sub-forms are only managed as browsing tables.
  • The "Looper" mode is transformed into browsing table.
Known limitations of this version
The limitations of this version are as follows:
  • When performing an import with data conversion to HFSQL, some SQL syntaxes are not recognized.
  • The queries containing space characters in the names of items may cause problems.
  • To import elements into an existing WINDEV project, the WINDEV project must include an analysis.
  • The queries with parameters are not supported.
  • The VBA classes are not imported.
  • The parameters in the event processes are not supported.
Minimum required version
  • Version 9
