Overview of Word Processing control
Caution: In the current version, some features are missing from the Word Processing control. See Word processing: Features for more details about the available features.
The last update available for the Word Processing control corresponds to an additional module applicable to WINDEV Update 1 (dated July 28, 2017).
See New forthcoming features for more details.
The expected features will be added into the different updates of version 22.


The "Word processing" control is an evolved control allowing the end user to create and edit documents in docx format in his WINDEV application. The benefits are immediate: time saving, consistent interface, no other software to install/drive/manage.
This control allows you to:
  • Open, create, modify, save "docx" files,
  • Convert docx into PDF, into HTML to send emails,
  • Manage the images and tables,
  • Versions 23 and later

  • Save the documents in HFSQL databases,
  • Use a spelling checker,
  • Perform prints, ...
The ribbon associated with this control is used to perform the most common operations. See Word processing: using the ribbon for more details.
Several keyboard shortcuts are also available:

Creating a Word Processing control
To create a Word Processing control:
  1. On the "Creation" pane, in the "Graphic controls" group, click "Word processing".On the "Creation" pane, in the "Graphic controls" group, expand "Office" and select "Word processing".
  2. Click the position where the control will be created in the window.

Note: The dimensions of created control are optimized in order to occupy the available space at the specified position. If the control size does not suit your, press [CTRL + Z]: the default control size will be restored.

To display the control characteristics, select "Description" from the popup menu of control.
Characteristics of Word Processing control
The "General" tab in the description window of Word Processing control proposes the following options:
  • Initial document: Used to indicate the initial document displayed in the Word Processing control.
  • With ribbon: Indicates whether the ribbon must be displayed or not. If the ribbon must be displayed, you have the ability to specify the ribbon used via the "IW Ribbon source" option .
    If the "IW Ribbon source" option corresponds to:
    • "None": the ribbon proposed by default will be used.
    • "Preset window": the ribbon proposed by default can be customized.
      Note: the default window will be available in a forthcoming version.All you have to do is select the default preset window in the "IW source of ribbon" area. In this case, the "IW_WinDevAAF_WPBar" window is automatically included in your project. This internal window can be entirely modified according to your own requirements. This window contains the code required to manage the Word Processing control. We advise you to check the GUI errors as well as the operating mode of window after any modification.
    • Internal window of project: Allows you to use an internal window to propose a specific ribbon.
      Any internal window of your project can be used to create this bar.

  • Versions 23 and later
    Allow the change of document: Adapts the ribbon to allow the user to handle external documents. This option is used to display the "New", "Open" and "Save" buttons of ribbon. If this option is checked, the document opening and backup must be performed by the application.
    Note: This option is ignored if the ribbon is entirely customized (with an internal window of application for example).

    Allow the change of document: Adapts the ribbon to allow the user to handle external documents. This option is used to display the "New", "Open" and "Save" buttons of ribbon. If this option is checked, the document opening and backup must be performed by the application.

    • Management of headers and footers,
    • Management of page layout,
    • Management of page breaks.
    • Furthermore, the display of document is forced in "Display for the Web" mode.

  • Enable [Check the spelling] by default: Specify whether the spelling checker must be enabled. See Performing a spell check based on Hunspell dictionaries for more details.
    This option is available via the update module of Word Processing control available from May 17 2017 ou via the final version of WINDEV.
