Overview of Slider control

Window control

A slider control is used to select a value between two bounds. Its operating mode is similar to the operating mode of a scrollbar. The current value is identified by a cursor that the user moves with the mouse (or with the mouse wheel).
Visual marks can be displayed. The cursor does not snap to these marks: the cursor of the slider is moved unit by unit.

Creating a Slider control

To create a Slider control:
  1. In the window editor, click to create a standard slider. The arrow found below this icon is used to select the type of slider to create (standard slider or round slider).
    On the "Creation" pane, in the "Graphic controls" group:
    • WindowsLinux expand "Slider" and select the type of slider to create:
    • AndroidiPhone/iPadWindows MobileUniversal Windows 10 App click "Slider".
  2. Click the position where the control will be created in the window. The control appears in creation mode.
To display the control characteristics, select "Description" from the popup menu of control.

Modifying the value of the slider at run time with the mouse wheel

The user can modify the value of the slider with the mouse wheel: the cursor will move according to the step (the marks) defined for the slider.

Swap

WINDEV allows you to transform a standard Slider into a round Slider (and conversely):
  1. Select the control to transform.
  2. Select "Control .. Swap .. Slider/Round slider".On the "Modification" pane, in the "Transformations" group, expand "Refactoring and swapping" and select "Slider/Round slider".

Characteristics of the slider

  • The slider cursor is necessarily an image.
  • You have the ability to use a native slider ("Native slider" option found in the "Details" tab of the description window of the control). In this case:
    • the slider will automatically adapt to the system style. The graphic options defined for the Slider control (mark, cursor image, ...) will be ignored. The properties used to manage the images associated with the control will be ignored.
    • the slider cannot be oriented vertically. Only the horizontal sliders are supported.

Several examples of sliders are supplied with WINDEV.
These sliders are accessible from the "Wizards, Examples and Components" pane:
  1. Click the "Controls" button.
  2. In the list of controls, select "Slider".
