Managing the mandatory input in WEBDEV
Overview
To force the Web user to enter data in a control, all you have to do is use the mechanism of mandatory input. The Web user will not be able to validate the page as long as the necessary information has not been entered.
Note: The mechanism of mandatory input affects the edit controls only.
Mechanism of mandatory input
A check is performed when a page is validated. If one or more "Mandatory input" controls are not filled:
  • a dialog box indicates the mandatory controls.
  • the page validation is canceled.
  • the first empty control according to the tab order automatically gains focus.
For example, the following page contains several "Mandatory input" controls:
When validating this page, the Web user forgot to enter data in several mandatory controls. The validation of the page is canceled and the following dialog box is displayed:
Once this dialog box is validated, the first empty control according to the tab order (the "Zip code" control in this case) automatically regains focus:
Implementation
To specify the different controls for which a mandatory input is required, check "Mandatory input" ("Details" tab of the description window of the edit control).
