Overview
The print preview is used to view the report layout without printing it (report preview). The report layout and content can be checked. You also have the ability to print the report.
The print preview is available:
  • in the report editor of WINDEV, WEBDEV, WINDEV Mobile.
  • in "Reports and Queries".
  • when printing reports from a WINDEV application.
Versions 20 and later
Note: From version 20, the different options of print preview are proposed in a ribbon. To find out the features of print preview for the earlier versions, see Print preview (version 19 and earlier).
New in version 20

Features of print preview
The print preview proposes several features:
Note: To preview a report, a printer must be installed on the current computer.
Other features
  • Customizing the preview: Your application is using a skin template? Why not use this skin template for the preview window. WINDEV allows you to customize the preview window. See Customizing the preview window for more details.
  • Previewing a print performed with the WLanguage functions: If a print is performed with the WLanguage functions, you can also benefit from the features of print preview.
  • Configuring the different options: To display some panes or some options only:
    • use iParameterPreview. This function, used in the initialization code of project, allows you to choose the panes and options that will be displayed for all the application reports.
    • configure the different options that will be displayed for each report in the report description ("GUI" tab).
  • Printing from the preview: To find out whether the print was performed from the print preview, use iDocumentPrinted.
Notes

Display effects during a zoom

Display effects may occur when performing a report zoom in the print preview. For example, some very fine lines may not be displayed in the print preview. However, these lines will be printed when the report is printed on a printer.

Printing from the preview

To print an entire document from the print preview, you must wait until all the pages are displayed in the print preview.

Re-running the report

The report displayed in the print preview is automatically re-run in the following cases:
  • when changing printer from the print preview.
  • when printing the report via one of the buttons found in the button bar (print in HTML, in PDF, ...).
The report displayed in the print preview is automatically re-run when the report is printed or exported from the print preview. The processes associated with the report are re-run.
In this case, the data displayed in the report may be modified (to take into account the data modified by the other users for example).
The variables used by the report should be initialized in the initialization code of the report (and not in the code of the button that starts the print preview).
Note: The WLanguage functions used in your report may return a different result when the report is re-run. For example, if WLanguage functions are used in a report based on the current window, the current window will correspond to the preview window when the report is re-run.

Using Outlook Express and sending emails from the preview window

If you are using Outlook Express and if you are sending emails from the preview window, the following problem may occur: the email window of Outlook Express does not allow you to enter the email information anymore. All the controls are grayed.
This is caused by an Outlook problem.
The following link to the Microsoft site allows you to get the information for fixing this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918766/en-usMake sure that your are working with the last Outlook update.
