Overview
WINDEV and WINDEV Mobile manage two types of menus:
  • WindowsLinuxAndroidWindows MobileUniversal Windows 10 AppJava the main menus of windows.
    A main menu is necessarily associated with a window. Depending on the runtime platform used, this menu can be:
    • displayed below the title bar of window (Windows applications for example).
    • displayed at the bottom of window (Windows Mobile applications for example).
    • displayed in an Action Bar control (mobile applications for example).

    A popup menu can be opened by the user via a right mouse click.

A menu (main menu or popup menu) includes one or more options and sub-options. Each option is used to run a WLanguage code.

In the editor, the operations performed on the menu options are the same for a main menu and for a custom popup menu. To handle the menu options, all you have to do is edit the relevant menu.
To edit (or display in the editor):
  • WindowsLinuxWindows Mobile The main menu of a window:
    • open the relevant window in the window editor.
    • select one of the menu options. The options and the sub-options are automatically displayed.
  • A custom popup menu, select "Window .. Popup menu .. <NamePopupMenu>".A custom popup menu: on the "Window" pane, in the "Bars and menus" group, expand "Popup menus" and select one of the existing popup menus.
Note: WINDEV et WINDEV Mobile also allow you to handle the menu options by programming.

Adding a menu option

To add a menu option:
  • After the selected menu option, you can:
    • display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click) and select "Add after".
    • press the [Enter] key.
  • Before the selected menu option, you can:
    • display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click) and select "Add before".
    • press the [Ins] key.
  • Type the caption of the new menu option.
  • Press the [Enter] key to validate the addition.
Notes:
  • The [Esc] key is used to cancel the addition of a menu option.
  • To go from a menu option to the next one, use the arrow keys (up and down).
  • AndroidWindows MobileUniversal Windows 10 App If a window contains more than 2 menus, an arrow is used to display the other menus in the window editor.

Linking a menu option to a preset action

To link a menu option to a preset action:
  1. Select the requested menu option.
  2. Display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click).
  3. Select "Preset action...". The window for selecting a preset action is displayed.
  4. Select the requested action and validate.
Universal Windows 10 App Preset actions are not available.

Adding a separator

To add a separator:
  1. Select the menu option in front of which the separator must be added.
  2. Display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click).
  3. Select "Insert a separator".
Note: You also have the ability to:
  • add a separator before the selected menu option by pressing the [Pause] key.
  • add a separator by giving the "-" or "--" or "---" caption to the menu option. The option is changed into a separator when the input is validated.
AndroidiPhone/iPadUniversal Windows 10 App The separators are not available.

Adding a sub-menu

To add a sub-menu:
  1. Select the menu option to which a sub-option must be added.
  2. Display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click).
  3. Select "Transform to expand a sub-menu".
  4. Enter the caption of the first option of the created sub-menu.
  5. Press the [Enter] key to validate the addition.
Notes:
  • The method for adding sub-options into a sub-menu is the same as the method for adding options into a menu.
  • You also have the ability to add a sub-menu to the selected menu option by pressing the [TAB] key.
  • AndroidiPhone/iPad The sub-menus are not available in the popup menus.

Modifying the background color of menus and menu options

To modify the background color of menus and menu options:
  1. Select the menu or one of its options.
  2. Display the description window ("Option description" from the popup menu).
  3. In the "Style" tab, configure:
    • the color of menu bar when it is inactive or during rollover.
    • the color of options when they are idle or during rollover.
The "Automatic" color is used to find out the default color managed by Windows.
Note: In order for the colors to be taken into account, uncheck "Display the menu in XP style" in the "Style" tab of window description.

Deleting a menu option

To delete a menu option:
  1. Select the menu option to delete.
  2. Display the popup menu of the current menu option (right mouse click).
  3. Select "Delete".
Note: You also have the ability to delete the current menu option by pressing the [Del] key.
