Managing the Google AdWords ad groups

Overview
Google AdWords proposes the "AdGroup service". This service is used to manage the Google ad groups.
An ad group contains:
  • one or more ads.
  • one or more location criteria used to define the location of the display for the ad.
The operations concerning an ad group are managed by the "AdGroup Service" service.
The operations concerning an ad are managed by the "Ad Service" service.
This help page explains how to use the "AdGroup Service" with the available WLanguage functions.
Reminder: To handle the Google AdWords service by programming, you must necessarily use the Google AdWords APIs. These APIs have a cost associated to them. GglAdWGetMethodCost is used to estimate the cost of each function.

Caution: If you are using a proxy to access Internet, the proxy must be configured (Proxy) to use the Google functions.
How to proceed?

Creating an ad group

Caution: An advertising campaign must be created before you can create an ad group.
  1. Create a gglAdWAdGroup variable. This variable contains the characteristics of the ad group to create.
  2. Use GglWrite. In this function, specify the identifier of the advertising campaign associated with the ad group.

Associating criteria and ads with the ad group

An ad group must be associated with at least one ad and one display criterion. This criterion can be:
  • a keyword: the ad will be displayed when this keyword is used.
  • a Web site: the ad will be displayed when this site is displayed.
To associate a display criterion with an ad group:
  1. Create:
  2. In the variable that was just created, the GroupIdentifier property must correspond to the identifier of the corresponding ad group.
  3. Use GglWrite to create the criterion.
Note: to create different types of criteria and to associate them with different ad groups, we recommend that you use an array of variants. This array contains the necessary gglAdWKeyword and gglAdWWebSite variables.
To associate an ad with an ad group:
  1. Create a variable for defining the ads:
  2. In the variable that was just created, the GroupIdentifier property must correspond to the identifier of the corresponding ad group.
  3. Use GglWrite to create the ad.

Updating an ad group

To update an ad group:
  1. Retrieve the requested ad group (via the following functions):

  2. Modify the gglAdWAdGroup variable corresponding to the requested ad group.
  3. Use GglWrite to update the requested ad group.
